Unit 8:Optimal well-being: Meditation & Visualization

This week, I chose two exercises that I thought were the most beneficial to me.  I chose the Visualization exercise and meditation.  The Visualization exercise starts by closing your eyes and visualizing a time of “great happiness”.  This was so easy for me because I immediately thought of my grandfather.  My grandfather and I always spent a lot of time together camping and fishing.  So, of course, the first thing that came to me was the two of us fishing on his small boat in the middle of the lake.  It made me feel happy inside and full of joy.  Then after I was able to feel all of this happiness, I then was able to think of another time when I was happy and had a special person in my life.  This time, I thought of my wedding day; which was just last year.  I never thought I would meet someone who is my rock, my comfort, and my best friend.  He is always there for me for support and loves me with all of his heart.  This day was a wonderful day and I think about my wedding all the time; just because of all the fun everyone had that day.  I really enjoyed this type of exercise because it makes me appreciate what I have in my life.
The next exercise is meditation.  Through meditation I am able to close my eyes and let any anger just disappear.  This a great exercise when at any time in my life, I am filled with stress or anger.  Sometimes it can be very difficult to let go of that anger, but when you are able to do, it is a great thing!  I really enjoy being able to just take those 15 minutes to myself and just have that peaceful experience where I can reach my ultimate happiness!

  1. I chose the same exercises, and I need some more practice at it, but I do feel if I continue to work at it, I can feel better. The visualization was the best for me. Great Post, Jean St.John

  2. Sara,
Thanks for sharing with us your thoughts on this week's blog. I would have to agree with you that both of these exercises are great ones to pick. It seems after reading many other blogs that we all have the same opinion on what we thought were benifical. I think that is great. Meditation is such an excellent exercise to do as it helps with changing your mind, and body in a good way. I love meditation and how at the end you feel like a much different person. Thanks so much.

  3. Sara,

I found the visualization and meditation practices beneficial and easy for me. This is an alternative to letting negative chatter or images stay in my head when I can think of other positive things to keep me calm and moving in the right direction. However, I don't want to get caught up in daydreaming and I want the meditation to be beneficial. But thinking of good times and good things always brighten my spirit and that is reflective with me. Just reading other blogs helps me to understand different perspectives on this unit 8 and meditation and visualization. Optimal health and well-being is essential to sustain life and the quality of life. I have been taught how to pray but I find meditation harder. But think it is a missing piece of my puzzle.

I work out and it is great for me in the mornings. It is a form of meditation for me because I can focus on the mind/body connection plus I feel great afterwards and that spills over into my attitude. That's really how I like to start my day.

Thanks for sharing about your granddad because I have an awesome grandfather as well. Those are some good memories too.

  4. Hello Sara I find that I like meditation is the best way for me to get the stress level down and I am glad that in this course it help me to learn how to have a good stress reliver to take me away from all the negitive things that has happen in my life and focus on the good and positive. Working out in the morning before work is a great way of getting the good energy going and you just flow through the day like your on a cloud.

  5. Hi Sara,

Visualization was hard for me. I don't have a lot of happy times to visualize. I need to practice it more. I hope to allow my mind to search for more happier times. Meditation works best for me. I find it much easier when I keep it in my daily routine. I try to begin and end my day with meditation. I need to get back into my routine.
